In recent decades the development of new technologies, bot dagnostic and therapeutic, has enabled important clinical progress in coloproctology.
The use and abuse of these technologies has been the subject of numerous studies.

The purposes of the E.C.T.A. are:

• to gather into one Association all surgeons and physicians from Europe and Asia countries who have a special interest in coloproctology
• to encourage and promote scientific and cultural exchange among the above countries.
• to promote stays and update exchanges between doctors of the european nad asian countries, with most attention to surgical training, research and updating technologies, with creation of entres of excellence.
• to establish a network of Centres of Colproctology (at least one for each country) in close connection between them, and that serve as Reference Centers for their country.
• to promote and organize a biennial international convention
• to supprt the creation and recognition of Specialization Schools in Colorectal Surgery in all countries of the Europe and Asia.

Medical doctors and scientists from all Europe and Asia countries are eligible for Membership of the E.C.T.A. which will consist of:

• Honorary Members
• Ordinary Members
• Associate Members (those with special interest in coloproctology but without medical qualification)

Membership fee will include free entrance to the Business Meetings and the biennial Congress,and subscription to Techniques in Coloproctology
